CUPRA FIP TOUR: International Padel around 3 continents

While the World Padel Tour season started, in Dubai and in Punta del Este (Uruguay) the international tournaments of the CUPRA FIP TOUR circuit were played.

The Asian tournament, FIP RISE DUBAI, had to change its location for the problem of the coronavirus, playing in the club of Real Racquet Academy in Dubai. The tournament brought together more than 6 different nationalities, the French countryside was the most represented in this edition.

The FIP RISE category awarded 20 points of the FIP-WPT ranking and an economic prize to be distributed of 3000 euros. The tournament-level could not give more spectacle and, finally, the title was lifted by the Argentine team formed by Fermin Ferreyra (world number 131) and Cristian Germán Gutierrez (world number 91) for a tight result of 7-6 / 6-4 against the French team Benjamin Tison (world number 128 and 1 French) and Jeremy Scatena (world number 99).

This will not be the last tournament in Dubai, in December they will have a FIP STAR that will close the 2020 season.

In the other part of the world, in Uruguay, the first FIP PROMOTION in South America was played. Successful participation and great reception, where 30 pairs were left out of being able to participate because the number of places destined for this competition was completely full.

Punta del Este vibrated with the local players and with some other Argentine and Brazilian pairs who wanted to be part of the Padel exhibition of the FIP PROMOTION PUNTA DEL ESTE, where the team formed by Daniel Romero and Martín Araújo got their first 5 FIP-WPT points after beating Juan Moratorio and Higor Ensslin and they are already part of the international ranking. This result consolidates the pearls of the Uruguayan Padel where 3 of the players in the final do not exceed 19 years.

Uruguay began a calendar full of tournaments in which a FIP RISE in Rio Branco from July 3 to 5 and a FIP PROMOTION in Pyansandú in September stand out to become its most international circuit.

FIP RISE MERIDA from March 9 to 12 in Mexico

FIP PROMOTION POLAND from March 13 to 15 in Poland

Interview with Raffaele Chiulli, president of GAISF: “Padel Olympic Sport”

The numbers speak for themselves. Padel is transforming strongly by permanently abandoning the reputation of the sport of the moment, fashion and as a consequence of short duration.

Today, the federation action, especially thanks to the continuous impulse of the president Luigi Carraro, is taking great steps so Padel can have the definitive consecration in the Olympus of sport.

The interview with the president of GAISF, Raffaele Chiulli, published in the Italian newspaper IL TEMPO is proof that the road is all downhill.

The journalist Federico Maselli met with the highest position of the Global Association of International Sports Federations during the last European Championships held in Rome and with which he highlighted the path of Padel growth and how it is showing internationally.

Below you can find the full article:

“Padel is no longer just a passing fad: numbers in hand, it is a sport in continuous and rapid growth that can aspire to become Olympic.” To certify the worldwide evolution of the Padel Raffaele Chiulli, the president of GAISF (Global Association of International Sports Federations), the international association that brings together more than 100 sports federations. defines with a metaphor: “For the disciplines that aspire to the Olympics, the institution represents the trial period to obtain a full-blown license”.

Invited as honorary guest at the last edition of the XI European Padel Championship in Rome, Chiulli praises the work carried out by Luigi Carraro, president of the International Padel Federation. And he urges him to continue along the same path. “We are at his side so that the Padel’s dream can come true: to become an Olympic sport.”

An ambition that, in order to be realized, must follow a well-defined process: after having applied for GAISF membership, a two-year period must pass, during which a Federation will be granted as observer status. “At this stage, the institutional body must demonstrate that it has all the characteristics required by the statute in both formal and substantive terms,” explains Raffaele Chiulli “For FIP to be recognized as a permanent member, specifically, in recent years it has proven to be a recognized constitution worldwide, solid, with exemplary, transparent governance, with non-discrimination criteria for athletes and employees”.

On the qualities of the Padel, the president of the Global Association has no doubt: “It is a very growth phenomenon, capable of involving both on and off the court. Many countries are welcoming it for its characteristics of inclusive, socializing and aggregating sport. It is a sport that is bursting, engaging, dynamic and, above all, universal.”

For a sport to become an Olympic sport, it must conform to more than 50 principles, beginning with its universal nature. It must then have growth plans for the participation of new generations and obtain formal recognition from the relevant governing institutions (e.g. National Olympic Committees or National Federations). It must also respect the environment and the sustainability of materials. Non-discrimination in terms of gender, ability, race, and religion also plays a key role.

To facilitate the recognition of Padel, GAISF has helped with talks between the FIP of Carraro and the International Tennis Federation of David Haggarty. A constructive and frank dialogue that allowed to evaluate all the synergistic elements for the admission of Padel to Olympic sport.

President Chiulli advises: “It is necessary to homogenize some institutional disparities: in some countries, the Padel federation is a rib of the tennis, in others, it is completely autonomous. We must all have one big goal: to support new disciplines such as Padel, which, with the right support, can reach even more people, more nations, more continents”.

Open applications deadline for 2020 FIP Tournaments

We are already working towards 2020, a new year where we must, among all, position the Padel, not only in the sport that grows the most but also in the most professional.

That is why we invite all associated member federations to offer their players semi-professional tournaments that increase the level and number of players in each country, being even more credible as a sport that is already established in the world.

Why do a FIP tournament? With these new tournaments, we create the possibility of improving local players and a path for them to become professional players. In addition to increasing competitiveness and attract more players.

After a historic agreement with World Padel Tour, giving players points for a single world ranking, an improvement in the economic amounts and making an effort to improve the player experience in each tournament we are sure that it will be easier to attract sponsors that might help you to grow.

The idea is always the same, develop and improve the sport. Players deserve tournaments that grow at the speed of Padel’s expansion. These tournaments are an excellent way to motivate players to travel, change experiences with other players from the rest of the world and become an exchange of ideas to continue offering new products internationally.

We leave you a PDF with all the detailed information on each type of event of the CUPRA FIP TOUR.

When and how to apply for a FIP tournament?

The deadline will be open until December 18, during the month of December the dates will be confirmed and we will send an email with the next steps to follow.

The calendar will be released on December 31.

We ask all those who want to take a test but still do not know the dates, reserve one beforehand so as not to stay out of time.

Announcement FIP’s Annual General Assembly, Castellon 2019

Download: Announcement Assembly

On Friday 18th was celebrated the 29th Annual General Assembly of the International Padel Federation.

Great participation by the Federations Members confirming the continued interest on the part of all members for the activities of the International Federation.

President Luigi Carraro opened the Assembly by thanking Spain, the Consejo Superior de Deportes and the Spanish Padel Federation for their support, and above all thanked the Padel Federation of the Valencian Community for the extraordinary organization of the current XII Junior Padel World Championship.

The assembly started with the usual voting to approve the minutes of the extraordinary assembly of São Paulo (March 2019) in which the Board of Directors was elected and then, the FIP 2018 budget was approved.

The president Carraro then presented the report of the work carried out in this year by the current FIP management, highlighting among the great results:

  1. The unification of the ranking with WPT
  2. The consolidation of the FIP partners with the entry of two very important new sponsors,
  3. The New FIP Padel Tour circuit that will allow the development of the padel worldwide and will also always have a ranking composed of players of as many different nationalities as possible.
  4. We then focused on important agreements with Media, starting from the agreement with Sky Sport that will broadcast the XI European Championship (Rome 4/9 November) and many others that will be announced in the coming weeks,
  5. The members were informed of the important developments with the European Olympic Committees for the inclusion of the Padel in the European Games of Krakow 2023 and also that a confrontation will soon begin with the organization of the next Pan-American championships that will take place in Chile in 2023 to include, also in this event, Padel between the disciplines.

All that in view of our most important goal that is to become an Olympic discipline in all aspects,

  1. In this context, with great honor, the President and the Executive Board announced to the members the signing of an important agreement signed with the GAISF and the ITF, which details will be announced in the coming days, and which makes even closer the passage from Observer Member to Permanent Member of the FIP within the GAISF.

Unanimous appreciation was made by FIP members for the activity carried out so far.

As usual, it was held the officiating of all the championships played in recent months (from the last Asunción General Assembly 2018 until today), of the current Junior World championships and of the upcoming European Padel Championships in Rome (4-9 November).

The assembly also voted to delegate to the board of directors, which will make use of a technical evaluation commission, the assignment of the next World Championships of 2020 Senior and Veteran.

In conclusion, we are particularly pleased to announce that the assembly has voted, on the proposal of the board of directors, the entry of 6 new countries within the FIP:

  • China, Russia, San Marino, Armenia, Egypt and Ireland.

This confirms what the padel is growing in every part of the world. Details on these countries will be announced in the coming days.

It is very important for FIP that all the points contained in the Meeting Agenda have been approved by the General Assembly, which is the sovereign body of FIP, by a large majority of votes, including the votes needed by a two-thirds majority. This demonstrates a uniform criterion within the FIP, where the constructive spirit of the Affiliate Members prevails, and the confidence placed in the Board of Directors, which will continue to work hard for the common objectives together with all member countries.

The assembly closed with the hope of President Carraro that the constructive spirit that characterized the assembly just held, is the beginning of a new era in which the Padel finds unity among all its components.

Board of Director’s statement

Download: Board of Director’s statement

We regret to note that, in a moment packed with appointments, while we are devoting our best energies to the growth of our sport, some members of the Padel family are dedicating all their efforts to useless and unmeritorious controversies.

The Board of Directors of the FIP has unanimously decided not to entertain itself with this sterile exercise and continue its activity in the sole and exclusive interest of Padel and its continuous development. Many of the goals we had set for ourselves have been achieved; other important results will be communicated shortly.

We hope that all personalism ceases as soon as possible so that we can dedicate ourselves together to the common interest. At the moment, all our attention is focused on the young athletes who, in a few days, will shine our sport by participating in an extraordinary competition, which will represent for them an essential moment of sporting and personal growth.
