The South American clash between Maxi Arce<\/strong> and Juan Tello<\/strong> on one side, and Lucas Bergamini<\/strong> and Javi Garrido<\/strong> on the other, had a place in the Valencia P1 quarter-finals at stake. The Argentinians came out on top after a battle lasting two hours and 41 minutes: a 7-6 3-6 7-6 victory that makes Arce and Tello the only pair outside the top eight seeds to reach the quarter-finals, which begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. The Argentinians will face fellow countryman Fede Chingotto<\/strong> and Ale Galan<\/strong>, who were taken to a third set for the second consecutive match. After dropping a set against Curro Cabeza<\/strong> and Mariano Gonzalez<\/strong>, the \u201cChingalan\u201d pair had to come from behind (2-6 7-5 6-4) to defeat Tino Libaak<\/strong> and Alex Chozas<\/strong>, whom they had beaten comfortably a week earlier at the Foro Italico. In the bottom half of the draw, the other quarter-final will feature Juan Lebron<\/strong> and Leo Augsburger <\/strong>(6-3 6-2 over Jos\u00e9 Diestro<\/strong> and Nacho Piotto<\/strong>) against Fran Guerrero<\/strong> and Javi Leal<\/strong> (the same scoreline against Fede Mouri\u00f1o<\/strong> and Marc Quilez<\/strong>). In the top half, Arturo Coello <\/strong>and Agustin Tapia<\/strong> defeated Alex Ruiz<\/strong> and Juanlu Esbri <\/strong>6-4 6-1 and will face Coki Nieto<\/strong> and Jon Sanz<\/strong>, who overcame Inigo Jofre<\/strong> and Jairo Bautista<\/strong> 6-2 6-7 7-6. Meanwhile, after a 6-1 6-3 victory over Marc Sintes<\/strong> and Dani Santigosa<\/strong>, Paquito Navarro<\/strong> and Martin Di Nenno<\/strong> will take on Franco Stupaczuk<\/strong> and Mike Yanguas<\/strong>, who later defeated Javi Garcia and Jos\u00e9 Jimenez 7-6 7-6.<\/p>\n

WOMEN <\/strong>Seven of the eight seeded pairs reached the quarter-finals in the women\u2019s draw as well, following the first-round elimination of Ale Alonso<\/strong> and Ale Salazar<\/strong>. The top four seeds \u2014 Delfi Brea<\/strong> and Gemma Triay<\/strong>, Paula Josemaria<\/strong> and Bea Gonzalez<\/strong>, Ari Sanchez<\/strong> and Andrea Ustero<\/strong>, and Claudia Fernandez<\/strong> and Sofia Araujo<\/strong> \u2014 all began their campaigns with straight-sets victories. Three sets were required, however, for Marina Guinart<\/strong> and Veronica Virseda<\/strong> (5-7 6-0 6-0) to overcome Virginia Riera<\/strong> and Teresa Navarro<\/strong> and secure a quarter-final against the top seeds. Bea Caldera<\/strong> and Carmen Goenaga<\/strong> also advanced in three sets, defeating Martina Fassio<\/strong> and Raquel Eugenio<\/strong> 7-6 5-7 6-4 to set up a meeting with Ari Sanchez<\/strong> and Andrea Ustero<\/strong>. In the bottom half, Paula Josemaria<\/strong> and Bea Gonzalez<\/strong> will face Marta Ortega<\/strong> and Martina Calvo<\/strong>, who defeated Ariadna Ca\u00f1ellas<\/strong> and Lea Godallier<\/strong> 6-3 6-2.
