Lyon, Day2. Collombon and Leygue fly the French flag on marathon day. Quarter-finals today

Alix Collombon in the women’s draw and Thomas Leygue in the men’s. In Lyon, where the fourth FIP Platinum of the season is being played, two French players have reached today’s quarter-finals, starting at 12:00 CEST. Collombon, alongside Ksenia Sharifova, won the French derby against Louise Bahurel and Ivet Val Lopez 6-4 6-3. Leygue, partnering Jesus Moya, pulled off the feat of the day, eliminating number 6 seeds Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi in a three-tie-break thriller (6-7 7-6 7-6). Goñi had nevertheless been able to celebrate his call-up to the Spanish national team for the FIP World Cup yesterday.

 

It was not the only marathon of the day, with seven of the 16 matches — four in the men’s draw and three in the women’s — going to a deciding third set. Among them were the matches involving women’s top seeds Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro, and number 3 seeds Juan Tello and Martin Di Nenno in the men’s draw, who only prevailed in a tie-break against Pol Hernandez and Manu Castaño. There were also comfortable two-set victories for Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, who defeated Alonso Rodriguez and Flavio Abbate 6-3 6-2, and Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal, who beat Alvaro Cepero and Nachi Sager 6-2 7-6. Ale Alonso and Giulia Dal Pozzo also advanced in two sets, defeating Marie-Amelie Dardaine and Clara Mansart 6-2 6-2.

 

With 14 of the 16 seeded pairs still in contention — six in the men’s draw and eight in the women’s — the FIP Platinum Lyon (streamed live on FIP YouTube Channel) enters its decisive stage today.
