Day 4. The tournament of surprises: Diestro-Esbri and the ‘Carburger’ in the semifinals

The Premier Padel Asunción P2 is the tournament of surprises. At the top of the men’s draw, the least expected semifinal will be played, because no two seeded pairs will compete. The magical week of José Diestro and Juanlu Esbri is not over yet: the pair, in their first tournament together, after Garrido/Libaak and Bergamini/Navarro, also eliminated the number 1 FIP rankings, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, with a score of 6-3 2-6 7-6. A sensational feat that of Diestro (No. 37) and Esbri (31), who in the last match of a program starting at 2 p.m. local time (7 p.m. CET) will take on the ‘Carburgers’, Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger, protagonists of the day’s other surprise: the Spaniard and the Argentine, who had already reached the semifinals in Riyadh in the first tournament of the season, stopped the run of Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron with a score of 6-3 5-7 6-2. In the other semifinal, the one at the bottom, Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (ahead thanks to a 6-0 6-2 win over Alex Chozas and Sanyo Gutierrez) and Martin Di Nenno and Juan Tello, who were ahead by a set before Victor Ruiz and Xisco Gil withdrew, will compete instead.

WOMEN Lots of surprises in the men’s tournament in Paraguay, all as expected in the women’s, where the top four seeded pairs made it to the semifinals. Double 6-1 for Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez over Marta Ortega and Ale Alonso and earned semifinals against Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez, who took advantage of the withdrawal of Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen. At the bottom half, however, 6-4 6-2 by Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay over Martina Calvo and Aranzazu Osoro, nevertheless protagonists of a great tournament: in the semifinals, the No. 2 on the draw will face Sofia Araujo and Andrea Ustero, able in their first tournament as a pair of them to defeat (7-6 6-3) Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno.
