The draws Sanchez and Josemaria to take back the number 1 spot in the FIP ranking
May 26, 2025
After the emotions of the P2 in Asunción, the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour remains in South America and moves to Argentina, with the Buenos Aires P1 scheduled at Estadio Mary Teran de Weiss (Parque Roca). A year ago, Argentina’s tournament was played in Mar del Plata, with Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan winning the men’s draw and Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria triumphing in the women’s. And it is the Spanish pair, after losing the top ranking to Gemma Triay, who will play in Argentina with the goal of returning to the throne.
MEN There will be 48 pairs starting in the men’s draw, with the 16 seeded players entering the court in the second round. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who like so many Argentines in Buenos Aires will play at home, will debut against a qualified pair or Ruiz/Gil; for Chingotto and Galan, champions in Asunción, there is Sager/Campagnolo or Valdes/Collado. Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger, who was in last year’s FIP World Padel Championships winning Albiceleste in Doha, will restart against Moyano/Cabeza or Martinez/Benitez after the final in Paraguay. These are the hypothetical quarterfinals: Coello/Tapia (1)-Alonso/Bautista (8), Gonzalez/Sanz (5)-Stupaczuk/Lebron (3), Yanguas/Nieto (4)-Bergamini/Navarro (7), Di Nenno/Tello (6)-Chingotto/Galan (2).
WOMEN The women’s draw, on the other hand, consists of 32 pairs, with the top 4 in the seeding playing directly in the round of 16. Josemaria and Sanchez will cross Orsi/Rodriguez or a pair from the qualifiers in their debut match; on the other side of the main draw and after losing the final in Paraguay, however, Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay (2) will restart against Guinart/Iglesias or Collombon/Martinez. Closing the podium are Asunción champions Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez, in the round of 16 against Barrera/Caparros or Talavan/Sharifova. These are the possible quarters: Sanchez/Josemaria (1)-Sainz/Llaguno (6), Ortega/Alonso (5)-Araujo/Ustero (4), Gonzalez/Fernandez (3)-Salazar/Virseda (7), Icardo/Jensen (8)-Brea/Triay (2).
