Day 5. Calvo impresses again: semi-final and top 30 at 16 years old

So young, so strong. Not yet 17, Martina Calvo is rewriting the history books of padel. Partnering with Aranzazu Osoro, the Pamplona player reached the semi-finals of the Oysho Valladolid Premier Padel P2, the second of her season on the Premier Padel circuit after the P1 in Buenos Aires, and on Monday she will be in the top 30 of the FIP ranking for the first time. In Valladolid, Calvo and Osoro defeated Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, earning a place in the 9 a.m. semi-final against Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, who advanced after defeating Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga 6-2 6-2. In the other semi-final, which will be also played at Plaza Mayor, the number 2 and 3 seeds will face each other: Gemma Triay, with Delfi Brea, after beating Ksenia Sharifova and Laia Rodriguez 6-0 6-1 in 46 minutes, will have to defend their FIP ranking throne in the match against Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez (7-5, 7-6 against Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen).

MEN Three of the top four seeds are also in the semi-finals in the men’s draw, but the same semi-finals as the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel are also in Valladolid. The “novelty”, as was the case at the Foro Italico, is represented by Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal, who with a 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 victory over Momo Gonzalez and Jon Sanz (5) confirm themselves as a formidable pair. On the other side of the net will be the king of Valladolid, Arturo Coello, who, with Agustin Tapia, defeated Edu Alonso and Jairo Bautista (8) 6-4 6-3. This will be the match that closes the day at Plaza Mayor, while the first match of the afternoon session, starting at 5 p.m., will see Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2), who won in a double tiebreak against Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger, and the pair formed by Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron, who eliminated Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini in an hour and 12 minutes.
