Day 1, Men. Klizan makes his debut with the pala. What a battle between Lithuania and Czechia
July 8, 2025
The first day of Phase 1 of the men’s FIP Euro Padel Cup also came to an end at Padel G24 in Madrid. There was great curiosity in Slovakia’s team for Martin Klizan, former number 24 in the ATP tennis ranking and winner of six singles titles and four doubles titles: paired with Michal Marko, Klizan made his debut with the national team with a pala, winning 6-1 6-0 in Slovakia’s 3-0 victory over Ireland in Group E, which also saw Cyprus win by the same score against Kosovo.
The battle of the day was in Group A between Lithuania and Czechia. The Lithuanian national team won all three matches in the tie, but all in the third set, the second of which went to a tiebreak with Kalinauskas and Baltrimaitis. Three wins out of three also for Ukraine (over Moldova), Estonia (over Turkiye), Bulgaria (over Georgia), Austria (over Montenegro), Greece (over Slovenia) and Finland (over Andorra). The only tie in which both national teams won at least one match was in Group D, with Romania beating Luxembourg 2-1. Tomorrow at 2 p.m., the second tie is scheduled, with Group E – the only one consisting of five teams – also playing the third tie at 6 p.m. after the second begins at 10 a.m., as do the women’s tournament matches.
