Day 3. Nieto and Yanguas, double 6-0 to forget Rome and Valladolid
July 3, 2025
Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal had become a nightmare for Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas. They had eliminated them in both the BNL Italy Major in Rome and the P2 in Valladolid, and the draw for the Premier Padel Betclic Bordeaux P2 had once again pitted them against each other in the round of 16. This time, however, the number 4 seeds in the men’s draw put on an impressive show of strength, not conceding a single game to their rivals, who arrived at the Patinoire de Mériadeck as one of the most dangerous pairs of the moment. A double 6-0 victory erases recent defeats and confirms Coki’s feeling with Bordeaux, where he won a year ago with Jon Sanz, who is also in the quarter-finals with Momo Gonzalez. Before Nieto and Yanguas’ show, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia had to work hard to win their match in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) against Sanyo Gutierrez and Gonza Alfonso. The quarter-final line-up will be completed today with Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, among others, taking to the court in the second match of the afternoon session at 5 p.m. to face brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus.
WOMEN In the women’s draw, the feat of the third day was achieved by Jessica Castelló and Lorena Rufo, who conceded only four games (6-3, 6-1) to Marta Ortega and Tamara Icardo, the number 5 seeds and a newly formed pair. Today, it’s time for the Valladolid champions, Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, who will face Ana Catarina Nogueira and Martina Fassio at 5 p.m., as well as Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez against Maria Virginia Riera and Raquel Eugenio.
