Day 5. The craziest Friday of the year: women’s semi-finals like never before!

The quarter-finals of the Premier Padel Malaga P1 were one of the most surprising and incredible days of the season. In the women’s draw, three upsets led to the elimination of three of the top four seeded pairs. The first came on court number 2, where Ale Alonso and Claudia Jensen conceded only four games (6-1 6-3) to Andrea Ustero and Sofia Araujo, who arrived in Malaga after their triumph in the P2 in Bordeaux. Then came the second, with the comeback victory of Marta Ortega and Tamara Icardo, who after a two-hour and 46-minute battle defeated the number 1 seeds, Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, 4-6 6-3 6-2. But the day was not over yet, because in the afternoon the newly formed talented and experienced “pareja” of Ale Salazar and Martina Calvo defeated Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay 6-3 6-4. It was a sporting earthquake that only Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez escaped, qualifying for the semi-finals thanks to a 6-0 6-1 victory over Ana Catarina Nogueira and Martina Fassio. In the semi-finals, they will face Salazar/Calvo. The match that will open the day at 12 will be between Ortega/Icardo and Alonso/Jensen.

MEN The men’s draw was more predictable, with Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia defeating Juan Tello and Martin Di Nenno 6-4 6-3 in the evening and continuing their title defence tomorrow against Lucas Bergamini and Paquito Navarro, who ended the day by beating Alex Chozas and Tolito Aguirre. The semi-final in the bottom half of the draw will see the number 2 and 3 seeds face each other: on one side, Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, who ended Franco Stupaczuk and Maxi Arce’s tournament (7-5 6-4), and on the other, Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto, who beat Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger 6-4 6-3.
