From the Premier Padel P1 in Tarragona to the FIP Junior World Cup: global padel takes center stage on the Costa Daurada. Carraro: “A historic day”

From a tournament featuring the world’s top professionals to one dedicated to the best NextGen players. From July 27 to August 3, the Palau d’Esports Catalunya in Tarragona will host the Cupra Costa Daurada Premier Padel P1, while from September 29 to October 5, the Pavelló Olímpic Municipal in Reus will welcome the FIP Junior World Cup. Two major international events were officially presented today at the Territorial Sports Office of the Generalitat de Catalunya, in the presence of sports and institutional representatives, as well as some of the circuit’s top players.

FIP President Luigi Carraro highlighted the significance of the moment: “Today is a historic day for padel, it’s the first time we’re announcing two events at the same time”. He thanked the institutional partners (Generalitat de Catalunya, Tarragona Provincial Council through the Costa Daurada brand, the City of Tarragona, and the City of Reus), and emphasized the importance of this stop on the calendar: “This is the first time Premier Padel visits Catalonia in the regular season outside of the Finals, and that makes us very happy. Regarding the World Cup, a few years ago it was hard to fill 16 national teams, and today, just hours after opening pre-registrations, we already have 33 men’s teams and 29 women’s teams. This paints a very clear picture of the sport’s growth”.

Carraro also sent a message of solidarity to the communities affected by the wildfires in Tortosa: “We know you are strong, and we’re sure you will respond well. We also want to carry out concrete actions during both events to support the region and affected individuals”.

Several key institutional figures were in attendance, including Estefania Serrano (Territorial Sports Representative for Camp de Tarragona), Eduard Rovira (Vice President of the Tarragona Tourism Board), Mario Soler (Councillor for Sports and Sports Tourism of Tarragona), and Enrique Martín (Sports Councillor of Reus). “It’s a pleasure to welcome you here today. For the region, it’s not only about hosting two events but also showcasing our capabilities in infrastructure, human resources, tourism, gastronomy, and culture”.

For Ramón Morcillo, President of the Spanish Padel Federation, these events mark an important step: “Coming to Tarragona and Reus for the first time is a success for padel and also for Catalonia’s sports policy and its institutions”.

World No. 2 Ari Sánchez recalled her early experience at the Junior World Cup, calling it “one of the best tournaments I’ve ever played”. Tonet Sans shared how meaningful it is to compete at home after years on the road. Wrapping up the event, Octagon Spain President Joan Cuscó said: “Sport is something we build together – it’s not just about the numbers. It’s also about tourism, health, and personal development.. Tarragona and Reus will be a true celebration of padel”.
