Ceuta, Lopez Diaz-Garcia looking for another win in Spain

The CUPRA FIP Tour is back in Spain. This weekend, the FIP Silver tournament will take place in Ceuta (a Spanish autonomous city in North Africa, surrounded by Morocco), with both men’s and women’s draws.

The top seeds in the women’s draw are Nati Lopez Diaz and Lucia Garcia, ranked 77 and 65 in the FIP rankings. Last week, they nearly caused an upset in the first round of the Alpine Paris Major Premier Padel against Bidahorria-Arruabarrena, and they also won the FIP Bronze in Vilamoura. It was another big win for Lopez Diaz, her 11th career title on the CUPRA FIP Tour, making her the most successful player ever on the tour. For Garcia, it was her 10th title, 7 of them won together with her fellow Spaniard. On the other side of the draw, we have the Dutch pair Bo Luttikhuis and Janine Hemmes, who won the FIP Silver in Veracruz in July.

The men’s draw is led by Spaniards Mario Huete (ranked 74, winner of the FIP Silver in Perugia) and Mario Ortega (ranked 75, reached quarterfinals at the P1 Tarragona). Close behind them are brothers Alvaro and Pedro Melendez, who won the FIP Silver Trecar Cup in July.

The tournament will be played in Ceuta and will give 80 points for the FIP ranking.
