Day5. Icardo and Ortega are unstoppable. Finals on Sunday: what a crowd at Roland Garros!
September 13, 2025
Tamara Icardo and Marta Ortega did it again. After eliminating Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez (3) in the quarter-finals, the two Spaniards – seeded number 5 in the draw – repeated their feat against the number 2 seeds, Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, who had won the previous two editions of the Premier Padel Alpine Paris Major. The victory came with a score of 7-6 6-4 in two hours and 13 minutes (after Josemaria and Sanchez had led 5-2 in the first set and 4-2 in the second), giving Ortega/Icardo their second final as a pair in 2025 after losing to Gonzalez/Fernandez in Malaga. While this would be Icardo’s first victory in a Major, Ortega won the first of his three titles in one of the four most important tournaments in the world, the 2023 Rome Major, paired with Gemma Triay. Gemma, ranked number 1, paired with Delfi Brea, who will rise to number 2 in the rankings on Monday, will be Icardo and Ortega’s opponents in the final, which will open Sunday at Roland Garros at 2 p.m. CET. In the second semi-final, Brea and Triay – aiming for their third Major in a row after those already won in Doha and Rome – beat Sofia Araujo and Andrea Ustero (4) with a great comeback (4-6 6-2 7-5), the latter having been Delfi’s partner in Paris a year ago until they lost the final to Josemaria/Sanchez.
MEN After the women’s final, closing a weekend that brought 25,000 spectators to the stands of Philippe Chatrier – with Paris also welcoming padel to the city centre – it will be time for the men’s final not before 4.30 p.m. After the “break” in Madrid, where Martin Di Nenno and Leo Augsburger were crowned champions, the top two pairs in the world will once again compete for the third Major of the year at Roland Garros. In Doha, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia triumphed, while in Rome it was the turn of Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan. In the first semi-final, Coello and Tapia were down 5-2 against Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk, but with a great comeback they managed to win 7-5 6-2, earning themselves the chance to win the Roland Garros title for the third consecutive year. On the other side of the net will be “Chingalan”, who dominated Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto 6-0 6-2 in the second match of the day. For Chingotto, it will be his fourth consecutive final in Paris: after defeats alongside Juan Tello (2022), Paquito Navarro (2023) and Ale Galan (2024), the Argentine is looking for his first title on the court Philippe Chatrier.
