All eyes of French padel fans and spectators at Philippe Chatrier were on her. Alix Collombon, paired with Araceli Martinez, didn’t fail. The only player remaining in the Premier Padel Alpine Paris Major draw defeated Aida Martinez and Ana Dominguez 6-1 6-3 to qualify for the round of 16, where Collombon and Martinez will face Andrea Ustero and Sofia Araujo not before 6 p.m. on a day that will see the debut of the top four seeds in the women’s draw. Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay will face Marina Guinart and Victoria Iglesias not before 3 p.m. on court number 7, while Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, the defending champions, will be the protagonists of the second match on Philippe Chatrier against Marta Barrera and Marta Caparros.
MEN The feat of the day at Roland Garros, in the men’s draw, was that of Nacho Piotto and Denis Perino, who eliminated the number 6 seeds, Momo Gonzalez and Jon Sanz, in two sets (6-3 6-1). The defending champions Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia made a winning debut (6-4 6-4 against Lucho Capra and Aimar Goñi), as did Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2), who advanced thanks to a 6-3 7-5 victory over Nuno and Miguel Deus. Guille Collado and Pol Hernandez (6-3 6-7 6-2 over Alex Chozas and Tolito Aguirre, seeded number 13) and Andres Fernandez Lancha and Alvaro Cepero (7-6 6-1 over José Diestro and Juanlu Esbri, seeded number 14) also made upsets.
The round of 16 is scheduled for Thursday, with matches to be played on four courts, starting at 11 a.m. CET. The third Major of the year enters its decisive phase.
