Day4. Martina and Martin, two great feats. Today it’s time for the semi-finals

The name is the same, with only one letter different. But Martina Calvo and Martin Di Nenno achieved two similar feats in one day, that of the quarter-finals of the Premier Padel Comunidad de Madrid P1, which kept the Movistar Arena crowd in suspense until nightfall. Martina Calvo with Ale Salazar and Martin Di Nenno with Leo Augsburger eliminated the number 2 seeds in their respective draws: Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez on one side, and Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan on the other, who will still have a chance to redeem themselves next week in the third Major of the season in Paris. Calvo/Salazar won in a comeback (4-6 7-6 6-1), Di Nenno/Augsburger in two sets (6-3 6-4), playing two extraordinary matches, which are nothing new for the 17-year-old Spaniard, given that the match in Madrid against Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez will be her fourth semi-final after Buenos Aires, Valladolid and Malaga. Di Nenno, on the other hand, will face two former teammates in the second men’s semi-final, scheduled not before 7 p.m. CET: fellow “Superpibe” Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron, the last pair of the day to secure their place in the semi-finals thanks to a 6-1 6-2 victory over Momo Gonzalez and Jon Sanz.

THE NUMBERS 1 While Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay conceded only five games (6-1 6-4) to Claudia Jensen and Ale Alonso, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia had to bring all their skills to bear to beat Max Arce and Pablo Lijó in three sets. The latter were the big surprises of the tournament, coming through the qualifiers to reach the quarter-finals against the number 1 seeds, who eventually won 7-6 6-7 6-3 in two and a half hours and will play their second match of the session starting today at 12 p.m. against Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto, who defeated the two players who had become a nightmare, Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal, 6-2 6-3. The programme will be opened by the number 1 seeds in the women’s draw: Andrea Ustero and Sofia Araujo will try to stop Delfi and Gemma’s run.
