The draws. Roland Garros reopens its doors to padel. Four quarter-finals on Court Suzanne Lenglen

The Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour returns to one of the temples of tennis and world sport. Roland Garros will host the fourth edition of the Paris Major, the third of the season after Doha and Rome (the fourth is scheduled to take place in Mexico), with the big news – announced by tournament director Arnaud Di Pasquale – that four quarter-finals will be played on Friday on Court Suzanne Lenglen, the second most important at Roland Garros after the Philippe Chatrier. The French capital is preparing to welcome the best players in the world, coming directly from Madrid where the P1 is currently underway. From Tuesday 9 to Sunday 14, six days of main draw action not to be missed, with the draw taking place today.

MEN In the men’s draw, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia defend the title they have won for the last two years, with last year’s final dominated (6-2 6-1) over Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan. There will be 48 pairs on court, with the world number 1s, like the other 15 seeds, entering the fray in the second round. Capra/Goñi or Valdes/Gutierrez will be their first opponents, with Chingotto and Galan on the other side of the draw awaiting brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus or Fernandez/Moyano. The number 3 seeds, Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron, the latter winner with Galan of the 2022 edition, will face a qualifier or Santigosa/Sanchez in their debut. Possible quarter-finals: Coello/Tapia (1)-Gonzalez/Sanz (6), Tello/Cardona (8)-Lebron/Stupaczuk (3), Yanguas/Nieto (4)-Di Nenno/Augsburger (7), Bergamini/Navarro (5)-Chingotto/Galan (2).

WOMEN Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, like Coello and Tapia, will try to win their third consecutive title at Roland Garros, also seeking to redeem themselves for their defeat in Madrid in the quarter-finals against Salazar/Calvo. There are 40 pairs in the women’s draw, with the top four entering in the round of 16. Marina Guinart and Victoria Iglesias could be the first opponents for Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, the number 1 seeds; Marta Barrera and Marta Caparros could face Josemaria and Sanchez. Hypothetical quarter-finals: Brea/Triay (1)-Salazar/Calvo (8), Osoro/Virseda (7)-Ustero/Araujo (4), Fernandez/Gonzalez (3)-Ortega/Icardo (5), Jensen/Alonso (6)-Josemaria/Sanchez (2).
