Day2. Fairy tales from Egypt: Ordoñez reaches the Round of 16, Chamli makes history

The Premier Padel Newgiza P2 is delivering some beautiful stories. The first comes from the continent hosting the event, with Tunisia’s Dora Chamli becoming the first African woman ever to win a match in the main draw of a Premier Padel tournament. Chamli, from Tunisia, achieved the milestone alongside Spanish Teresa Navarro, defeating Dutch player Marcella Koek and German Victoria Kurz in three sets (6-7 6-3 6-1). It was also here in Newgiza that, back in 2022, Egyptian Youssef Hossam became the first African man ever to win a Premier Padel match, playing with his compatriot Ahmed Alaa Marzouk. The other great story is that of Claudia Ordoñez, born in 2009, who, after coming through the qualifiers, also won her first-round match, partnering with fellow Spaniard Candela Lucendo. In the Round of 16, they will face the No. 2 seeds, Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez.

MEN The tournament is heating up: Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan played only three games before Sanyo Gutierrez and Gonza Alfonso were forced to retire. There was also a winning debut for Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk (6-1 7-5) against David Gala and Pablo Garcia Rodrigo. Among the seeded pairs, Javi Leal and Lucas Bergamini (6) needed a third-set tiebreak to overcome Agustin Torre and Mario Ortega (6-3 4-6 7-6).

Today’s schedule features the Round of 16, with the debut of the eight seeded pairs who received a bye in the first round.
