Euro Final 8, Women’s Day 3: France beats Italy, avoids Spain, and will face Belgium in the semifinal

France–Belgium and Spain–Italy, these are the women’s semifinals of the FIP Euro Padel Cup, set to light up the Plaza de Toros in La Línea de la Concepción tomorrow morning from 10:00. The “Judgment Day” between France and Italy, both already qualified but fighting to win the group and avoid the powerful Spain, ended with France claiming the top spot. This means the French will still face yellow and red jerseys — but those of their Belgian “cousins”, in a new chapter of the historic rivalry between the two countries, from football to padel.

The day started badly for Italy when Orsi and Stellato, favorites before the match, were defeated by Collombon–Ginier Barbier. The Italians started well, taking the first set 6-4, but then suffered a drop in form, while the athletic French duo took control, closing 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Italy equalized thanks to their most solid pair so far: Marchetti–Dal Pozzo, who easily beat Godallier–Touly 6-2, 6-1.

The third and decisive match featured two Italian heroines, Sussarello and Pappacena, already stars in past European and World Championships. However, they couldn’t find their best game and lost in two sets (double 6-4) to Pothier–Bahurel. As expected, Spain finished first in their group with a third 3-0 win out of three matches, eliminating Portugal, to whom they conceded just nine games in total.
