Euro Final 8, Women’s Day2: Italy and France reach the semifinals

Both teams are already in the semifinals, yet the “superclásico” between Italy and France in the women’s Final 8 of the FIP Euro Padel Cup promises to be more spectacular than ever. The direct clash in Group B, scheduled for Thursday, will be decisive just like in the 2024 European Championships: one year after the semifinal in Cagliari, won by the Italians – who then earned silver against Spain – the two teams now have 6 points each after Day 2. At La Línea de la Concepción, the Italian women enjoyed another victory, this time over Great Britain. Opening the day at the Plaza de Toros were Chiara Pappacena and Giulia Sussarello (6-1 6-0 against Tordoff/Jackson), followed by Carolina Orsi and Emily Stellato (6-0 6-3 against Norton/Gibson). Closing the day for the Azzurre were Martina Parmigiani and Giulia Dal Pozzo, the latter born in 2005 and making her first appearance with the senior national team.

The celebration for the Day 2 win will not last long, given tomorrow’s big challenge. The Bleues have also been perfect so far, first with a victory over Great Britain and then today’s 3-0 success against Germany, with wins from Collombon/Soubrie, Pothier/Sireix and Touly/Ginier Barbier. The points at stake on Thursday will therefore be decisive for the semifinal pairings: the first of Group B will face the second of Group A, while the first of Group A – currently Spain – will meet the second of Group B. It will be a special clash also because all the players who took part in last year’s semifinal in Cagliari are present in La Línea, with the Italians having won that tie 2-1: Stellato, Casali, Orsi, Sussarello, Pappacena and Marchetti for Italy; Pothier, Soubrie, Collombon, Godallier, Touly and Ginier for France.
