Lyon, Day3. A marathon win for Ruiz and Esbri. Semifinals today

The FIP Platinum in Lyon has reached its decisive weekend. Today, the semifinals are scheduled at the Palais des Sports de Gerland: the women’s semifinals will start at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s not before 5 p.m. The most evenly balanced quarterfinal match was the one won by Alex Ruiz and Juanlu Esbri over Javi Garcia and Javier Barahona: a 7-6 5-7 6-4 battle that sends the No. 5 seeds through to face the top seeds Martin Di Nenno and Javi Leal (who defeated Torre/Gutierrez 6-4 6-1). In the bottom half of the draw, the other semifinal will feature José Jimenez and Maxi Sanchez Blasco — the surprise duo of the tournament — against Edu Alonso and Juan Tello (7-5 6-2 winners over Teo Zapata and Curro Cabeza).
WOMEN In the women’s draw, everything has gone according to plan: the top four seeds will face off in the semifinals. On one side, Tamara Icardo and Marina Guinart (1) will take on Aranzazu Osoro and Victoria Iglesias (4); on the other, Ale Salazar and Martina Calvo (3) will meet Lucia Sainz and Ale Alonso (2), all of them winning their quarterfinal matches in straight sets.
