Gemma Triay: “Winning the World Cup is the highest achievement, whether it’s with a team or with your pair. And these courts feel like home to me”
November 7, 2025
World number one in the FIP ranking and 2024 world champion with Spain, Gemma Triay is now aiming for the “triplete” at the FIP World Cup Pairs. She started strong with Delfi Brea, beating Caldera/Goenaga 6-2 6-2. Gemma is enjoying the moment in a place that means a lot to her: “I’m happy to play here, at the Arena Kuwait and just a step away from the Rafa Nadal Academy, where I’m an ambassador. It’s a wonderful place. We’re in Kuwait, but I feel at home”.
For Triay — who already experienced the joy of a world title last year in Doha with Spain’s women’s team at the FIP World Padel Championship — a tournament like this represents the ultimate goal. “It’s the top of the top, whether you play with your team or in pairs. It’s a dream, a bit like going to the Olympics”.
After winning nine titles in 2025, Gemma is one of the favorites for the title at the FIP World Cup Pairs. A new milestone to aim for, and she already knows who she’d dedicate it to: “No doubt, always my big family. I’m from Menorca, but I don’t live with them. When you leave home, the feeling is even stronger. I think I didn’t really appreciate what I had until I left: the beach in Menorca, my family, my friends… everything”.
While waiting for the results on the court, the world number one also wants to thank those who support her in tournaments around the world: “I can’t thank my team enough. I’ve been with the same group for six years, since I arrived in Madrid: my coach Rodri Ovide, my fitness trainer, and the whole team. Winning a title and aiming for a world championship means you never win alone, but always with the whole team. It’s a team effort, so it’s a team victory”.
