Veracruz, Day3. Osoro-Iglesias into the semifinals: ‘Zazu’ and Victoria chase trophy and points

The FIP Platinum Skechers in Veracruz is entering its decisive phase. Today, the women’s tournament semifinals and the men’s tournament quarterfinals are being played, with the trophy and 300 FIP ranking points on the line, points that could be crucial in the Race to the Barcelona Finals. Aranzazu Osoro and Victoria Iglesias hope to be there, having started the week outside the top 16 in the Race. Their three-set victory over Jessica Castelló and Lorena Rufo (7-6 5-7 6-4) earned the ‘Vikinga’ and the Spaniard a semifinal against Lucia Sainz and Raquel Eugenio. The other semifinal, in the top half of the draw, will feature Jimena Velasco and Marta Barrera – who eliminated top seeds Claudia Jensen and Ale Alonso – against Martina Fassio and Patty Llaguno, who advanced with a 6-2 6-4 win over Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga.

In the men’s draw, seven of the eight seeded pairs reached the quarterfinals, starting with Javi Leal and Lucas Bergamini, who defeated Enrique Goenaga and Luis Hernandez 6-3 6-4. It was a hard-fought win for Javi Garrido and Lucas Campagnolo, who will face the top seeds after beating Fede Mouriño and Rama Valenzuela 4-6 6-3 6-4. The other quarterfinal matchups are Libaak/Bautista vs. Tello/Alonso, Sanz/Goñi vs. Cepero/Torre, and Ruiz/Esbri vs. Gonzalez/Guerrero.
