Women’s qualifying complete, four pairs still dreaming

Four decisive matches for a spot in the main draw, all of them going to a third set. The final day of the women’s qualifying rounds at the FIP World Cup Pairs ended after a morning of spectacular battles at the Kuwait Arena, fought point by point until the very end. Among them, Anna Ortiz and Camila Fassio stood out: after a dominant 6-0 in the opening set against Ana Varo and Lucía Fernández, they endured a 2-hour and 52-minute marathon, recovering after their opponents leveled the match in the second-set tie-break and sealing the win 7-5 in the third. The result sends them into the main draw, where they will face Carla Mesa and Sara Ruiz.

Nati and Rebeca López also came through with a comeback victory over the Dutch Koek and German Kurz (3-6 6-1 7-5), and will now meet Lucía García and Amanda López. Success too for Carlotta Casali and Ariadna Cañellas (6-0 2-6 6-4 over Lucía Peralta and Carla Touly), who will take on wild cards Zenab Sarkhoo and Xenia Clascà. Finally, the clash between Lorena Vano and Alba Pérez and Raquel Piltcher and Daiara Valenzuela ended in a third-set tie-break (2-6 7-5 6-6), with Piltcher and Valenzuela advancing after the withdrawal of a courageous Pérez, stopped only by cramps. The winning pair will face Giorgia Marchetti and Lea Godallier in the opening round.
