Bea González and Claudia Fernández defeat the world No.1s to claim their first Tour Finals title

The grand finale of the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour Finals delivered a thrilling, high-drama encounter, as Bea González and Claudia Fernández overcame world No.1s Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea in a three-set battle that went the distance (6-4, 0-6, 6-3).

González and Fernández struck first, making the most of their only break opportunity in the opening set to take control of the match. Bea González was outstanding, producing 15 winners in the first set alone, nine more than any other player on court. The Spanish pair excelled in the key moments, saving four break points against them and converting the only chance they created.

The response from the No.1s was immediate and emphatic. Triay and Brea raised their level dramatically to level the match with a flawless second set in which they committed just one unforced error and did not concede a single game. Coached by Rodri Ovide, they applied relentless pressure and gave their opponents no room to breathe.

Losing a set 6-0 and seeing the final title of the season slip away did not shake González and Fernández. On the contrary, they embraced the challenge and once again showcased their best padel when it mattered most.

The third set became an emotional rollercoaster, with Fernández and González once again delivering a masterclass in efficiency. They converted all three of their break-point opportunities, while their rivals finished with 4 conversions from 12 chances. That precision proved decisive, sealing their sixth title as a pair, and their third in a row.

Individually, Bea González stood out above the rest, amassing an extraordinary 31 winners, 17 more than the next highest total, which belonged to her partner.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, González reflected on the significance of the moment: “I think these are the moments you take with you for life. Playing in a full stadium and hearing people shout your name is something you remember even more than titles.”

She added: “This is the moment when I feel best in every aspect of my life, and finding that balance is really important. It’s the stage of my career where I feel most prepared to fight for the No.1 spot next year.”

González also opened up about her emotions after the 6-0 second set: “I had no strength left, I felt like I couldn’t go on. I went out, cried a bit, released the tension and told myself, ‘let’s make everything we’ve lived this week and this year worth it’. In the end, I almost disconnected because I couldn’t believe we managed to win the match.”

Claudia Fernández, meanwhile, highlighted the level of their opponents and the satisfaction of the achievement: “Against Triay and Brea it’s always an incredible match. They’ve shown the level they have and finished the season as No.1s. We’re extremely happy and very proud of this title.”

“Above all, what I take from this year is believing a bit more in myself,” she concluded.
