World No.1s impress in their Tour Finals debut with a dominant win over Leal and Bergamini

The final match on Thursday at the highly anticipated Qatar Airways Premier Padel Finals delivered the long-awaited debut of the world No. 1 team, Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia. The top seeds lived up to expectations, defeating Lucas Bergamini — competing in the Finals for the second consecutive year — and Javi Leal, making his tournament debut, by a convincing 6-2, 6-2.

Tapia was simply untouchable in the opening set. Playing with imperial precision, he committed zero unforced errors and led the match with nine winners. Under Gustavo Pratto’s direction, the pair controlled the tempo from start to finish. They reached the first bench break already a break ahead, extended the lead to 5-2, and closed the set in style — a hold to love punctuated by Tapia’s brilliance, bringing the Palau Sant Jordi crowd to its feet. The opening set lasted just 23 minutes.

The second set began with a moment of resistance from Bergamini and Leal, who saved three break points from 0-40 to hold the opening game. But the reprieve was short-lived. Coello and Tapia quickly regained control, breaking to move ahead and once again reaching the bench break with the scoreboard tilted in their favour. Just as in the first set, a second break followed, giving the top seeds a commanding 5-2 lead and the chance to serve for the match. In this set, it was Coello who stepped forward, delivering a masterclass of power and precision. The Valladolid native finished the match with 16 winners and just seven unforced errors, sealing a comprehensive victory for the reigning world No. 1s.
