Agrigento, Garcia targets all-time lead, Abbate eyes record-equalling milestone

After reaching the semi-finals at the FIP Silver in Dubai, Lucia Garcia resumes competition at the FIP Bronze in Agrigento. From Friday to Sunday, the tournament in southern Italy will offer 40 points in the FIP ranking, with the Spaniard — currently No. 60 — aiming to further improve her already outstanding record on the CUPRA FIP Tour: no player in the world has won more titles than her, as she leads with 13. Garcia will compete alongside Amanda Lopez in a women’s draw headed by Teresa Navarro and Virginia Riera.

Leading the men’s main draw entry list at Karol Sport as the No. 3 seeds will be Marc Quilez and Fede Mouriño, followed by Italians Flavio Abbate (competing in his home region of Sicily) and Alvaro Montiel, winners last week of another FIP Bronze event, in Agadir (Morocco). With another title, Abbate would draw level with Marco Cassetta and José Luis Gonzalez, who top the standings of players with the most tournament victories on the CUPRA FIP Tour, with 13.
