Marseille. The special Sunday of Guerrero and Leal. Unlucky Alonso, fair play from Sainz and Eugenio: “Ale, come back soon!”
February 8, 2026
Lyon, Bourg-en-Bresse, now Marseille. France continues to bring good luck to Fran Guerrero, who in Marseille claimed the title at the first FIP Platinum of 2026. It is the first title of the year for Guerrero and the first international title as a pair for Javi Leal, achieved thanks to a superb comeback in the final against Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini. After losing the first set 6-3, Guerrero and Leal – the number 1 seeds – turned the match around to win 3-6 6-3 6-4 in two hours and 30 minutes. “Yes, France brings me luck”, admitted Guerrero, “I’m really happy to have won another title”. Leal had a dedication: “To my grandfather, who is unwell at the moment. Thanks to the Marseille crowd that filled the stands all week. I hope to come back here next year”.
Before the men’s final, the women’s final had been played, with Ale Alonso forced to retire after five games due to an ankle injury that ended both her match and Ale Salazar’s. The tournament was therefore won by Lucia Sainz and Raquel Eugenio: “We are happy about the victory”, said the winners, “but it’s not nice to have achieved it this way. We wish Ale a speedy return to the court”.
