Caltanissetta, Ruiz-Rubio return to Sicily to strike again

Back in Sicily, nine months after the title they won together at the FIP Silver in Palermo, Javi Ruiz and Gonzalo Rubio return to the Italian island, where the main draw of the FIP Silver in Caltanissetta begins tomorrow. The world numbers 41 and 42 lead the men’s draw of 32 pairs, which also features, among others, Jose Luis González and Antonio “Pincho” Fernandez (2), with the latter also seeking a second title in Sicily following his victory at the FIP Bronze in Agrigento last May. Also in contention are Mario Huete and Adrian Marques (4), as well as the European champion with Spain, Álvaro Cepero, partnering Arnau Ayats (3).

In the women’s draw, Carolina Orsi and Leti Manquillo (1), ranked No. 28 and 46 in the FIP Ranking, start as the leading favourites to win the tournament. The Italian player is aiming for the title after reaching the final at the FIP Silver in Parma last week. Their main challengers are Marta Arellano and Patri Martínez (2), who arrive following their victory at the FIP Bronze in Kaunas, Lithuania. These two pairs are in opposite halves of the main draw and can only meet in the final. Attention should also be paid to other contenders such as Carlotta Casali VannicelliAna Domínguez (4) and Carla ToulyCamilla Fassio Goyeneche (5).
