Manila, historic first for an all-women FIP Silver with ‘leyendas’ Riera–Sainz

It is a historic moment and a special event for the CUPRA FIP Tour – FIP’s global circuit spanning five continents, with 400 men’s and women’s competitions scheduled for 2026 – and for international padel. In Manila, in the Philippines, the professional circuit governed by the International Padel Federation celebrates a first that enters the history of the tour, with the first FIP Silver tournament played entirely in the women’s category. It will also represent another highly symbolic highlight for the global growth of the sport and for a country that continues to expand within the padel landscape, now counting 15,000 amateur players with up to 35 professional women included in the FIP Ranking.

Thirty-two pairs will compete in the main draw scheduled from Friday at the Manila Padel Club, featuring two outstanding players who have helped shape the history of women’s padel, joining forces in an attempt to lift the trophy and mark this first edition in Manila. On one side is Lucía Sainz – former world number one and multiple world and European champion with the Spanish national team – alongside Virginia Riera, a leading figure in Argentine padel and winner of two titles on the CUPRA FIP Tour in 2026, in Dubai and Agrigento. Sainz and Riera are the tournament’s top seeds and head the 32-pair draw, followed in the bottom half by the number two seeds Alba Gallardo and Alba Pérez (2), while Catherine Rose and Lucía Pérez (5) aim for a second consecutive title after their victory at the FIP Bronze in Singapore last Sunday. Among the home pairs are Toribio/Liong and Clemente/Lava.

After the start on Friday, the main draw will continue on Saturday with the second round and quarter-finals, while Sunday will feature the semi-finals (from 10 local time) and the final (at 17).
