Siracusa: Abbate targets home victory. Santigosa–Sintes the favourites
March 12, 2026
The CUPRA FIP Tour returns to Italy. One of the pairs in contention for victory at the FIP Bronze in Siracusa is formed by local player Flavio Abbate, who was born in Siracusa, and Alvaro Montiel. In February the two reached the final of the FIP Bronze in Agrigento and, the week before, had won the FIP Bronze in Agadir by defeating the pair Marco Cassetta/Mario Huete in the final, the same duo they could meet again in the semi-finals of this tournament. The top seeds and favourites for the title are Dani Santigosa and Marc Sintes: in 2026 they have already won the FIP Silver in Caen, France. The Spanish duo are in the top half of the draw, which also includes another very solid pair: Alonso Rodriguez and Juani De Pascal (5). They too arrive in Sicily having already claimed titles this season, with victories at the FIP Bronze events in Burianna and Agrigento.
The CUPRA FIP Tour stage also promises a high level of competition in the women’s draw. In the top half are Lara Arruabarrena and Marina Lobo. The number one seeds will play the Siracusa tournament after competing in three major events since the start of the year: the Premier Padel P1 in Riyadh, the Premier Padel P2 in Gijón and the FIP Platinum in Marseille. In the semi-finals they could face another pair among the leading contenders for the title: Patri Martinez and Marta Arellano (3), who are seeking a title after losing the final of the FIP Bronze in Mallorca last January. In the bottom half of the main draw, the leading pairs are Vega Cano/Carla Mesa (4) and Leti Manquillo/Noemí Aguilar (2). The latter reached the final of the FIP Silver held in Espoo, Finland, partnering Sandra Bellver. The tournament entry list also includes the two Italians Emily Stellato and Martina Parmigiani.
