Surprise in Kaunas for García and Arias Aznar. Martínez and Arellano secure consistency

Winning as outsiders: this is how the triumph at the FIP Bronze event in Kaunas, Lithuania, secured by Sergio Arias Aznar and Aaron García, can be summarised. The Spanish pair claimed the title without dropping a set, defeating another surprise duo, Louie Harris and Alexander Loughlan, in the final (7-6 7-5). Arias and García had overcome top seeds Gustavo Nunes and ‘Tonet’ Sans (6-4 6-1) in the semi-finals, as well as the pair Matteo Sargolini and Giulio Graziotti (5) in the quarter-finals. For the winners, this was not their first FIP Bronze title, having lifted the trophy in Elche last July. “Champions in Kaunas – García said after the victory – What a fantastic tournament”.

The women’s draw was dominated by top seeds Patri Martínez and Marta Arellano, who defeated Carla Touly and Camila Fassio in the final (6-3 6-1). Throughout the tournament, the champions won all their matches without dropping a set, and overcame a strong pair such as Rebeca López and Lucia Fernandez in the semi-finals (6-4 6-0). “Champions in Lithuania” Arellano wrote after the victory. For her, this was the second title of the season: she had already won, also in March, the FIP Bronze in Alexandria, Egypt, playing alongside María Portillo.
