Isla de la Palma, Gonzalez and Cabeza target second consecutive title

The CUPRA FIP Tour returns to Spain with the FIP Bronze Aquahobby Isla de la Palma. Following their strong run at the FIP Gold in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and their victory last week at the FIP Bronze in Marrakech, Mariano Gonzalez and “Curro” Cabeza are aiming to secure a second consecutive title. To do so, the two players, both born in 2007, will need to overcome the tournament’s top seeds: Andrés Fernández Lancha and Enrique Goenaga, ranked n.60 and n.57 in the FIP Rankings respectively. The former arrives at the tournament after reaching the final of the FIP Bronze in Seville last weekend alongside Mario Ortega. Ortega will also be competing in Spain, partnering Isidro Tormos. Marcos Cordoba-Borja Trujillo will also take part, as will the pair Gonzalez-Cabeza defeated in the final in Morocco: Emilio Sanchez-Alberto García.

Leading the women’s draw are Rebeca López (72) and Anna Ortiz (75), both aiming to claim their first title of the year on this circuit. The top seeds are placed in the upper half of the main draw alongside Martina Vera and Aitana García Román. In the opposite half are Ana Varo-Janine Hemmes, as well as the winners of the FIP Bronze and Silver events held in Melbourne in mid-January: Nerea Guerra-Carla Fernandez. Other competitive pairs entered in the tournament include Lorena Alonso-Francesca Ligotti and Claudia Ordoñez-Paula Ferrán.
