Day2. Goenaga-Caldera make strong start to earn clash with Josemaria and Gonzalez

This season, Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga have already reached the quarter-finals twice in Premier Padel tournaments: first in Miami and then in Newgiza. To do so again, the number 17 pair in the FIP ranking will need to stop the run of Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez, which currently appears unstoppable. After winning titles in the United States and Egypt, the number 2 seeds also triumphed in Brussels and are now ready to make their debut — like all the world’s top pairs — at the ueno bank Asunción P2. Goenaga and Caldera opened their South American campaign with a 7-5 7-5 victory over Jessica Castelló and Lorena Rufo. Among the marathon matches of the women’s opening round was also the comeback win by Nuria Rodriguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo, who defeated Aranzazu Osoro and Victoria Iglesias 1-6 7-6 6-4. The tournament of Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay (1) will instead begin against Marta Talavan and Sofia Saiz.

MEN There is also great anticipation in Asunción for the leading players in the men’s draw. Lucas Campagnolo and Jairo Bautista will open the tournament of Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, while Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan will face Inigo Jofre and David Gala. Qualifiers Marc Quilez and Federico Mouriño will test the level of Brussels champions Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger. Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini came back from a set down against Javier Barahona and Gonza Alfonso, while the support of the Paraguayan crowd was not enough for Facundo Dehnike and Marc Abud — partnered respectively with Marcel Font and Miguel Lamperti — to progress to the next round.
