Day3. Rodriguez and Dal Pozzo did it again: another semi-final is the dream

Less than a month ago in Rome, Giulia Dal Pozzo, partnering Nuria Rodriguez, rewrote the history of Italian padel by becoming the first Italian player to reach the semi-finals of a Major, defeating Claudia Fernandez and Sofia Araujo. But Rodriguez and Dal Pozzo have done it again, this time coming through qualifying: after defeating the No. 4 seeds 4-6 7-6 6-4 at the Oysho Valladolid Premier Padel P2, they have booked their place in the quarter-finals, where they will once again face (as they also did at the Foro Italico, although on that occasion it was in the second round) Ale Salazar and Ale Alonso, who was born in Valladolid, as they aim to match their result at the BNL Italy Major. The other quarter-final in the bottom half of the draw, scheduled for today, will see Bea Gonzalez and Paula Josemaria take on Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen. In the top half, another unseeded pair has also reached the quarter-finals: Raquel Eugenio and Martina Fassio, thanks to a 7-6 7-5 victory over Martina Calvo and Marta Ortega, earning a meeting with Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay. The schedule is completed by the match between Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero (3) and Marina Guinart and Veronica Virseda (8).

 

MEN The only players outside the top eight seeds to reach the men’s quarter-finals are Jairo Bautista and Iñigo Jofre. Today they will face Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who opened their campaign with a 6-2 6-3 win over Tino Libaak and Alex Chozas. Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger had a tougher challenge, edging past Pol Hernandez and Guille Collado 7-6 7-5, and today the No. 3 seeds will take on Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo. In the bottom half, Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2), after a pair of 6-3 sets against Luis Hernandez and Javi Martinez, will meet Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno. Completing the programme is the match between Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas against Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal.
