Day5. Sanchez vs Josemaria, Coello and Tapia vs Chingalan: showtime at Plaza Mayor

Last year’s Plaza Mayor champions are all still in contention, ready to battle for another title at the Oysho Valladolid Premier Padel P2. Not all of them, however, can lift the trophy again, as Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez – who were on the same side last year – will face each other tomorrow, not before 17:30. The women’s final in Valladolid will feature the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez earned their place by overcoming the surprise pair of the week, Nuria Rodriguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo, 6-0 4-6 6-4, while Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero, fresh from their triumph in Valencia, will look to claim a second consecutive title in Spain after defeating Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay 6-3 7-6.

 

MEN While the women’s final will be a new championship match-up, as the two pairs have previously only met in semi-finals, the men’s final will once again feature Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan. It will be the 37th chapter of their enduring rivalry, with the head-to-head standing at 23 victories for the world No. 1 pair, including their wins in Rome and Valencia. Coello and Tapia secured their 25th consecutive final with a 6-4 6-4 victory in just 56 minutes over Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger. Chingotto and Galan, meanwhile, were pushed to the limit by Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal. After taking the opening set 6-4, the No. 2 seeds dropped the second 6-1 and also found themselves a break down in the deciding set. They recovered in the closing stages, however, earning the chance to claim a title for the first time since Buenos Aires. But when play begins, not before 19:00, the Valladolid crowd will be firmly behind hometown idol Arturo Coello.
