Las Heras-Kucheriavaia triumph in Abu Dhabi

Just less than a month after winning the FIP Silver in Teramo, Italy, Barbara Las Heras has claimed another title by winning the FIP Bronze in Abu Dhabi. The Spanish player achieved the victory alongside Daria Kucheriavaia. The champions, after defeating Elsa Terranova and Angelina Neizvestnaya in the semi-finals in a closely contested match decided only in the third set (6-7, 6-4, 6-4), went on to win the final against Catherine Rose and Lucia Perez (2-6, 6-4, 6-3) to secure the title. “We gave our best. We are champions” said Las Heras. “I congratulate my partner. We fought hard”. Kucheriavaia also commented on the result: “I want to thank Barbara for her support”.

In the men’s draw, the fifth seeds Sergio Icardo and Francisco Jurado lifted the trophy after defeating Pedro Araujo and Pedro Graça in the final (6-3, 5-7, 6-4). In the semi-finals and quarter-finals, the champions overcame the tournament’s top seeds, Nacho Vilariño and Diego Arredondo (6-4, 6-1) and the pair of Álvaro Del Saz García and Alejandro Guinaldo (7-6, 4-6, 6-3), respectively. “We played an excellent match, and I am very happy to have won the title” said Jurado after the victory.
