Slovenia, Fonteny celebrates first CUPRA FIP Tour title

A first CUPRA FIP Tour title is never forgotten. France’s Timeo Fonteny, born in 2007, knows that well after partnering with Albin Olsson to defeat fourth seeds Antonio Luque and Pedro Perry 7-5 6-4 in the final of the FIP Bronze in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The victory was also significant for Sweden’s Olsson, who claimed his first title of the season on the circuit. The champions performed strongly throughout the tournament: in the semi-finals and quarter-finals they defeated respectively Santino Giuliani Lombardo and Fabian Oviedo by a double 7-6 scoreline, and Octavio Alvarez and Vinny Nahuel Di Francesco 6-4 7-6.

From Slovakia to Slovenia, the result remained the same: after their success at the FIP Bronze in Bratislava in mid-May, Italy’s Emily Stellato and Giulia Sussarello repeated the achievement by winning the FIP Bronze in Ljubljana. The champions lifted the trophy thanks to a straight-sets victory in the final over the tournament’s top seeds, Marcella Koek and Ana Sanchez, 6-4 6-1. In the semi-finals, they had overcome Lorena Vano and Alina Yeroshenko with a double 6-2 scoreline. The tournament in Slovenia once again confirmed the solidity of the partnership between Sussarello and Stellato, who did not concede a single set throughout the event. Their strength as a pair had already been demonstrated this season through two semi-final appearances together: one at the FIP Bronze in Agrigento and the other at the FIP Silver in Caltanissetta. “Victory in Slovenia!” said Sussarello after the triumph.
