Eighteen-year-old Coquito Zamora is enjoying a remarkable period, and his journey did not stop with a place in the main draw of the tournament that got underway yesterday in Andalusia. Partnering Pablo Sanchez, Coquito defeated Pol Hernandez and Guille Collado to earn a second-round meeting with two legends of world padel, Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno. Zamora’s name has been circulating in the world of padel for months: one of the circuit’s brightest young prospects, he has already reached four CUPRA FIP Tour finals and has now earned another opportunity to showcase his talent at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena. Among the closest matches of the opening day in Malaga was the three-hour, nine-minute contest won by Lucho Capra and Luis Hernandez, who defeated Fede Mouriño and Marc Quilez 6-4 6-7 7-6, while Benitez/Patiniotis, Solano/Pereyra, Guichard/Geens and Pineda/Garcia all progressed through the opening round after coming through the qualifying draw. The opponents for the top two seeds have also been confirmed: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia will face David Gala and Enzo Jensen, while Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan will take on Denis Perino and Facundo Dominguez.

WOMEN Following the conclusion of the qualifying draw, the women’s main draw also gets underway today, with Marina Guinart and Ale Alonso making their debut as one of the new partnerships competing in Malaga. Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero will not compete in the tournament, with their place in the draw taken by two lucky losers.
