Day2. France rallies behind Collombon. The world’s top stars make their debut today

The Betclic Premier Padel Bordeaux P2 moves into its decisive stages with the debut of the world’s top pairs. Today’s round of 16 will feature the biggest names in padel, including Arturo Coello, Agustin Tapia, Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez, who return to competition just four days after their victory at the Valladolid P2. The second seeds in the women’s draw will face the only remaining French player in the tournament, Alix Collombon, with the Patinoire de Mériadeck crowd ready to get behind their home favourite. Partnering Ksenia Sharifova, Collombon came through a marathon lasting almost three hours on Tuesday, defeating Lucia Sainz and Jana Montes 6-2 5-7 7-6 after the Spanish pair had held three match points. Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga will be the opening opponents for Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, while Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero take on one of the form pairs of the moment, Nuria Rodriguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo.

 

MEN Coello and Tapia will play in the evening session against Maxi Sanchez and Xisco Gil, while earlier in the day Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan face David Gala and Enzo Jensen. Mario Ortega and Victor Ruiz, who progressed with two 7-6 sets against Javi Barahona and Gonza Alfonso, will be the opening opponents for Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger in the match that closes the Centre Court programme.
