Day 4 Men’s, Spain and Portugal reach the semi-finals: the gold medal dream continues

Winning a match at the Mediterranean Games is a special feeling, but doing so with Prince Albert II of Monaco in the stands turns a great moment into a unique memory to carry for a lifetime. Portuguese brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus (4) know this well, having defeated the French pair Timeo Fonteny-Yoan Boronad (6-3 6-4) in front of His Serene Highness, who was visiting the XX Mediterranean Games. The coin toss in the presence of the Prince brought good fortune to the Deus brothers, who secured a place in the semi-final in the lower half of the draw. Awaiting them in this match will be the Spanish pair of No. 2 seeds Jose Antonio Diestro and David Gala, who defeated the Portuguese Pedro Araujo-Pedro Graça (7) in the quarter-final played at Parco Mediterraneo Salinella on Day 4 in Taranto, winning a two-set match in which both sets were closely contested, 7-6 6-4.

 

WEDNESDAY’S SCHEDULE The other semi-finalists will emerge from the final two men’s quarter-finals, scheduled for tomorrow, 26 August. On the Central Court, not before 18:00 CEST, the Italian pair Giulia Dal Pozzo-Carlotta Casali will face the Portuguese Sofia Araujo-Ana Catarina Nogueira. They will be followed on court by the French pair Dylan Guichard-Bastien Blanque (5) against the Italians Alvaro Montiel-Flavio Abbate (3). Not before 20:00 CEST, the final match of the day will see the Italians Marco Cassetta-Simone Iacovino (6) face the Egyptians Georges Wakim-Youssef Hossam, who pulled off a major upset in the previous round by defeating the No. 1 seeds Pol Hernandez-Guille Collado (Spain). The winners of these two matches will meet in the semi-final in the upper half of the men’s draw.
