Mexico and USA through, men secure places in the final stage
August 2, 2026
A victory that rewards Mexico but also benefits USA. The North and Central America FIP World Cup Qualifiers produced the first men’s draw verdicts after Day 2 in Toronto, with El Tricolor defeating Canada 3-0 in their opening tie. The three victories, all achieved in two sets, came from Pablo Francisco Amora Hernandez and Jose Pablo Padilla (6-0 6-3 against West/Bergeron), Moises Rafael Rivero and Amilcar Gaston Bejarano (6-1 6-2 over Bourne/Robinson), and Juan Pablo Castillo and Luis Enrique Barrientos Garcia (a double 6-4 win against Krustev/Tiraspolsky).
With this result, Mexico joins USA at the top of the standings with two points. The two teams will face each other on Sunday at 9 am local time (15 CEST) in the final tie of the tournament, but both have already secured qualification for the final stage of the FIP World Cup 2026 in Doha. The regulations award two points to the winning team in each tie and one point to the losing team, while Canada has completed its campaign on two points and can no longer overtake either Mexico or USA.
The women’s qualifiers, however, will go down to the final decisive tie, with Canada and USA facing each other at 12 noon local time (18 CEST) after USA’s 3-0 victory over Mexico. Marta Morga and Brittany Dubins impressed on their debut, defeating De La Peña/Ramme 6-3 6-2, while Daniela Ruiz and Sofia Victoria Adamovich needed three sets to overcome Natalia Blanco and Renata Martinez 6-4 1-6 6-3. Carla Rodriguez Sanchez and Egle Petrauskaite then sealed the tie with a 6-4 6-2 win over Reyes/Fuentes. USA therefore move to two points, one behind Mexico, who finished their campaign with one win and one defeat. Canada, currently on one point, will play for their qualification hopes – in the women’s competition, only the top-ranked team will qualify for Doha – in the direct clash against USA.
