Day4. A crazy Friday! Gonzalez and Campagnolo produce a stunning comeback: Coello-Tapia against the field in the title race
October 3, 2026
Rotterdam witnessed a crazy Friday, with three of the top four seeds in the men’s draw at the Dutch P2 eliminated. One of them, Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno, even had two match points against Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo before eventually losing 2-6 7-6 7-5 after two hours and 49 minutes. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who are chasing their tenth title of the season in Rotterdam, now find themselves up against the field. First came the defeat of Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2), beaten 6-4 6-4 by Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, followed in the evening by the exit of Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger. They were beaten 7-6 — after losing the tie-break 7-0 — 6-3 by Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas, who will face each other in the semi-final in the bottom half of the draw, with crucial points at stake for the number 4 seeding at the Milano P1. Gonzalez and Campagnolo, meanwhile, will attempt to stop Coello and Tapia in the top half of the draw. The world number ones also needed three sets to overcome Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso, winning 4-6 6-3 6-3.
WOMEN While the men’s semi-finals (the first scheduled for not before 13:30, the second for not before 20:00) will feature the number 5, 6 and 8 seeds, the women’s semi-finals will be contested by the top four pairs in the seeding. Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez (2) were the only pair to need three sets to eliminate Marta Ortega and Sofia Araujo, winning 4-6 6-3 6-2. They will face Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo again today, after the latter defeated Claudia Jensen and Claudia Escacena 6-3 7-5. The semi-final in the top half will see Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, who beat Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro 6-0 6-4, take on Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero. After receiving a walkover in the round of 16 following the withdrawal of Lucia Sainz and Sofia Saiz, Sanchez and Ustero made their tournament debut with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Virginia Riera and Julieta Bidahorria.
