Day5. Two epic women’s semi-finals: Fernandez-Calvo and Sanchez-Ustero to play for the title. Stupaczuk and Sanz did it again

The two women’s semi-finals at the CUPRA Germany P2 were epic encounters. Together, the matches provided more than six hours of world-class padel, underlining just how open the race for the top spot remains. The Düsseldorf title will be contested by the number 3 and number 4 seeds: Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero on one side, Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo on the other. In the men’s event, the final will be a repeat of Rotterdam, with Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia facing Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, who have once again eliminated Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, just as they did a week ago.

WOMEN In the first semi-final, which lasted three hours and seven minutes, Bea Gonzalez and Paula Josemaria even had two match points at 6-5 in their favour in the deciding set. However, Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo have managed in just a few tournaments to reach the level of the world’s leading pairs. Their 6-4 5-7 7-6 victory  (with a great display of sportsmanship from Bea in the third-set tie-break) sends the number 4 seeds into their fourth final in six tournaments together. Standing between the two young stars of world padel and their second title as a pair, following their P1 triumph in London, will be Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero. After winning in Paris and Rotterdam, they have no intention of stopping: in a match lasting two hours and 56 minutes, the number 3 seeds came through 7-5 3-6 7-5 against Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, who have now failed to reach the final in three consecutive tournaments. With this victory, combined with the defeat of Bea Gonzalez and Paula Josemaria, Sanchez and Ustero move up to second place in the FIP Race

MEN While the women’s title will be contested from 2 pm CEST by the same pairs that reached the final of the Paris Major, the men’s final will be the second consecutive meeting between Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia and Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, scheduled for no earlier than 4 pm. Coello and Tapia needed just one hour and five minutes to beat Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger 6-2 6-3. It was the world number ones’ fifth consecutive straight-sets victory over Lebron and Augsburger. Stupaczuk and Sanz, meanwhile, repeated their quarter-final victory from Rotterdam by beating Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan 7-6 6-4. They denied fans another ‘Clasico’ in the final and reached their third consecutive final, following Rotterdam and the FIP Platinum Lyon. Neither of the pairs that won the CUPRA Germany P2 in 2025 will contest this year’s final, meaning four new names will be added to the tournament’s roll of honour in Düsseldorf.
