DOHA – Alongside the quarter-finals and the matches for the title, the women’s draw at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha also features matches to determine the final standings from 9th to 16th place at the FIP World Cup. The quarter-final day delivered some impressive performances. Belgium produced a dominant display against Paraguay (3-0), with victories for Pysson/Boeykens, Wyckaert/Mestach and Sermant/Vierendeels. The winning pairs conceded just five games across all three matches. In the semi-finals, the Belgian players will face Indonesia, who defeated Germany 2-0. Kusuma/Putria secured victory in the opening match, before Gumulya/Sabrina sealed the tie. The third match was not played, in accordance with the regulations allowing teams to agree not to play a match if its result would have no bearing on qualification.
The other half of the draw produced closer contests. Great Britain overcame Egypt, securing a 2-1 victory with the deciding point coming in the third match of the tie. Following the victory by Rose/Gibson, the Egyptian pair Tawfik-El Nimr levelled the score. Nicholas/De La Mare then secured qualification with a win over Faidallah/El Halaby. In the semi-finals, Great Britain will face the United States, who defeated Chile 2-0. The opening match of the tie was a marathon encounter, with Beltramino/Rodriguez Sanchez overcoming Arancibia/Ahumada Carrasco after almost two and a half hours of play (6-3, 4-6, 6-4). The decisive point came through Dubins/Morga Alonso, who won the second match against Bentjerodt Burgos/Del Real Bobadilla.
