Day 3. Calvo and Eugenio, talent shines. Two born in 2008 in the quarters
April 25, 2025
Martina Calvo and Raquel Eugenio are having a dream week. Both born in 2008, both from the Lotto Brussels P2 Premier Padel qualifiers, both in the quarter-finals today. Two great talents, Martina and Raquel, with the NextGen of world padel at women’s level continuing to bring very young players on the stage: not only Claudia Fernandez, Ale Alonso and Andrea Ustero, who are regularly in the final stages of Premier Padel’s draws (but Andrea and Ale eliminated at the Gare Maritime Tour & Taxis by Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen in the round of 16), but in this case also Martina Calvo – who will turn 17 next 5 July and is the youngest player to reach a Premier quarter-final – and Raquel Eugenio, born on January 25th 2008 in Gran Canaria de Las Palmas.
Both Martina (number 59 in the FIP ranking) and Raquel (49) have already achieved important results on the CUPRA FIP Tour: this time last year, Calvo won the FIP Rise in Burriana while in 2025 she reached the quarter-finals of the FIP Gold in Paredes, as did Eugenio, who was a finalist in the FIP Silver in Ponta Delgada. Today, paired respectively with Marta Borrero and Laia Rodriguez, Martina and Raquel go in search of another feat: Borrero and Calvo will face Ale Salazar and Veronica Virseda (7), while Eugenio and Rodriguez will find Bea Gonzalez and another very young player, Claudia Fernandez.
MEN After Santiago and Doha, there will also be the big challenge in Brussels between Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia against Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger. The ‘Carburgers’ are the only non-seeded pair to have reached the quarters, taking advantage of the elimination of Tino Libaak and Javi Garrido beaten by Agustin Torre and Alvaro Cepero, then defeated by Cardona and Augsburger in a match that ended 7-5 6-7 7-5. Bergamini/Navarro (7)-Yanguas/Nieto (3), Ruiz/Lebron (4)-Di Nenno/Tello (6) and Gonzalez/Sanz (5)-Chingotto/Galan (2) the other matches scheduled for today.
