Day 1. The show begins: Leal and Guerrero, debut with victory
May 21, 2025
At the Ueno SND Arena, the Premier Padel Asunción P2 show began, and for the Paraguayan pair of Martin Abud and Mariano Gonzalez it was an unforgettable emotion. Passing the round were Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, with a double 6-3, but to play and score six games against the second best pair in the world is still a great result. The return of the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour circuit to South America also marked the debut of newly formed pairs: Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero’s first match coincided with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Alex Ruiz and Maxi Sanchez, while Gonzalo Rubio and Javi Ruiz defeated Jairo Bautista (who until a few days ago was playing with Guerrero) and Edu Alonso, who started as the number 8 seed on the draw.
And speaking of seeded players, the number 5 (Momo Gonzalez and Jon Sanz, remounting 4-6 6-2 6-3 Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso) and 7, with Lucas Bergamini and Paquito Navarro defeating 7-6 6-3 Aris Patiniotis and David Gala also debuted with a win in Asunción. Today, starting at 10 a.m. local time (3 p.m. CET), the men’s round of 16 will be completed among others with the debut of world number 1s Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, versus Portuguese brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus. Ten matches are scheduled in the men’s main draw, in addition to the first eight matches in the women’s, waiting for the debut of the eight seeded pairs, scheduled on Thursday.
