Day 3. Sanyo and Alfonso work their magic. Today the quarterfinals

Timeless. Sanyo Gutierrez continues to work his magic on courts around the world, paired with Gonza Alfonso, who formed “Los Magicos” with Tolito Aguirre. In Rotterdam, Sanyo and Gonza advanced to the quarterfinals of the Dutch P1 by coming back to defeat Martin Di Nenno and Leo Augsburger (already beaten in Paris) with a score of 3-6 6-3 7-5. Today, in the last match of the day, they will face Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebron, the tournament’s number 3 seeds. Gutierrez and Alfonso are the only pair outside the top eight seeds to have reached the quarterfinals: first quarter-final as a pair for Fran Guerrero and Momo Gonzalez (7) versus Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (1), Jon Sanz and Paquito Navarro (5) who will face Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas (4), and Javi Leal and Lucas Bergamini (8), taking on Dusseldorf champions Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan (2).

WOMEN In the women’s tournament, Julieta Bidahorria and Lara Arruabarrena defeated Dutch lucky losers Luttikhuis and Hemmes, qualifying for the quarterfinals against Claudia Jensen and Ale Alonso; Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez made a good debut, beating Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno 6-4 6-1 after a close first set. Today they will face Marta Ortega and Tamara Icardo, one of the hottest pairs around at the moment. Brea/Triay-Guinart/Virseda and Ustero/Araujo-Salazar/Calvo are the other quarterfinalists.
