Day5. Di Nenno–Augsburger, assault on the ‘Chingalan’

Seven of the world’s top eight pairs – across both the men’s and women’s draws – have confirmed their presence and will take the court tomorrow at the Allianz Cloud for the semifinals of the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1. Among them, the team formed by Martín Di Nenno and Leo Augsburger took advantage of the elimination of Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto and will try to insert themselves into the title fight. Thanks to their evening win (6-3 6-3) over Javi Garcia and Javier Barahona, the No. 11 seeds and surprise package of the tournament, the Argentinians have earned a semifinal spot against Fede Chingotto and Ale Galán in the second match of the evening session, scheduled to start not before 7 p.m. The No. 2 seeds had earlier prevailed in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) over Pablo Lijó and Maxi Arce, another pair that has been one of the revelations of the tournament. The top half semifinal, meanwhile, went according to the script: in the second match of the afternoon session (starting at 2 p.m. CET), Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia will continue the defense of their 2024 title against Juan Lebrón and Franco Stupaczuk. Another convincing performance from the world No. 1 duo, who dropped only five games (6-3, 6-2) to Paquito Navarro and Jon Sanz (No. 5), while “El Lobo” and the Argentine also looked strong, winning 6-3, 7-5 over Momo González and Fran Guerrero (7).

WOMEN The women’s semifinals will feature the top four seeds, although the No. 1 team – Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay – had a rough start in their quarterfinal. After losing the first set 6-1, Delfi and Gemma came back to defeat Marta Ortega and Tamara Icardo in three sets (1-6, 6-1, 6-4). Standing between the No. 1 pair and the final tomorrow will be Bea González and Claudia Fernandez. The two reigning champions of the Milano Premier Padel P1 2024 will face off, as Claudia and Bea beat Ale Alonso and Claudia Jensen 6-3, 7-6. The day’s action will open with Paula Josemaría and Ari Sánchez taking on Andrea Ustero and Sofia Araujo in a match that promises to kick off a spectacular Saturday. After some struggles in their debut, Paula and Ari advanced with a double 6-4 win over Ale Salazar and Martina Calvo, while the Portuguese and the young Spaniard Araujo-Ustero defeated Marina Guinart and Verónica Virseda 6-4, 6-3.
