Austin: a historic weekend for US padel

It was a historic weekend for US padel in Austin, celebrating the first CUPRA FIP Tour event in the country with two of its top players. At the FIP Bronze in Texas, 18-year-old Vinny Di Francesco stood out, winning the title alongside Argentine Octavio Alvarez by defeating Calleja/Maier in the final (6-1 6-2). Di Francesco became the first American male player to win a CUPRA FIP Tour title, after already being part of another historic moment for US padel: last March, he won the “American clash” at the Miami Premier Padel P1, teaming up with Nico Agritelley to beat fellow Americans Aaron and Matias Segura. “We’re the champions of this first FIP in the United States! Super happy to keep growing and winning tournaments together as a team. Let’s go for more!”, Di Francesco said after the win.

US padel also celebrated Brittany Dubins, who claimed her second title alongside Portuguese player Margarida Fernandes. The pair had already won at the FIP Bronze in Aveiro last July, when Dubins became the first-ever American athlete to win on the circuit. The second-seeded duo beat top seeds, Mexico’s Ramme and Argentina’s Ferreira, in the final (6-4, 6-0). “Big thanks to Maggie for competing like a maquina all weekend – said Dubins -. I always believe in us and am simply proud of this team. Congrats to our opponents and friends Jordi & Cami for the finals and playing a great tournament! Thanks to my family & friends for all the love and support. Feeling super grateful to win the first FIP in the USA”.
