Day2. Alonso and Tello in form, the best on court on Thursday

Edu Alonso and Juan Tello began their season by reaching the quarter-finals at the Riyadh P1, eliminating Momo Gonzalez and Martin Di Nenno. In Gijon, the Spaniard and the Argentine once again overturned expectations, defeating Paquito Navarro and Fran Guerrero (5) 4-6 6-4 6-4, the semi-finalists in Saudi Arabia. This was the most notable result of the second day of the Spanish P2: Javi Martinez and Rama Valenzuela, coming through the qualifiers, brought an immediate end to the campaign of Gonza Alfonso (last year’s finalist with Tolito Aguirre) and Sanyo Gutierrez. There was also a positive debut for Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini, who came from behind (3-6 7-5 6-4) to overcome José Jimenez and Maxi Sanchez Blasco. A comeback victory also secured success for Momo Gonzalez and Martin Di Nenno (2-6 6-4 6-1) against Enzo Jensen and Luis Hernandez.

THURSDAY Closely contested matches marked the opening round of the women’s draw, with eight matches determining the opponents of the world’s leading players, who are set to make their debut in Gijon on Thursday. Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay will begin their defence of the 2025 title against Marta Barrera and Jimena Velasco; Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez will open their campaign against Alix Collombon and Jana Montes. Melania Merino and Letizia Maria Manquillo will be the first opponents of Andrea Ustero and Ari Sanchez, champions in Riyadh. From 10:00 CET, attention will also turn to the leading names in the men’s tournament: Enrique Goenaga and Aimar Goñi will open the tournament of Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan; Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, in the second match of the afternoon session starting at 16:00, will face Pablo Lijó and Maxi Arce.
