Winning a title in one’s home country is always special. Italy’s Carolina Orsi knows this well, as she, partnering Leti Manquillo, claimed the FIP Silver in Caltanissetta, Sicily, thanks to a final victory in an all-Italian derby against Emily Stellato and Giulia Sussarello (7-5 6-2), with whom she won bronze at the 2024 World Championship and last year’s FIP Euro Padel Cup. Stellato and Sussarello had secured an impressive three-set win (4-6 6-3 6-2) over the other seeded pair, Marta Arellano-Patri Martínez. “Champions in Caltanissetta. A wonderful weekend in Sicily – said Orsi after the triumph -. I am pleased to have won this tournament with you, Leti. Well done, Peque! Our opponents in the final were excellent as always: they never disappoint.” Manquillo also commented on the victory: “Three incredible days in which we managed to secure another FIP win. Thank you, Carol, for trusting me in these two tournaments. I had a great time playing with you; you play at a very high level”.
In the men’s draw, there was a surprise result: Marcos González and Víctor Mena claimed the title by defeating the top seeds Gonzalo Rubio and Javi Ruiz, ranked No. 41 and 42 in the world, in three sets (6-2 5-7 7-6). In the semi-finals, the winners had overcome Gonzalo Sassano and Matteo Rosingana (6-1 6-4). With this result, González and Mena secured their second title of the season on the CUPRA FIP Tour: last February they won the FIP Silver in Wadi, Egypt.
